This page provides definitions of common terms used at LPA.

a nationally recognized program that provides comprehension quizzes on widely read books by students in grades 1-8

Data Notebooks
these are kept by students in grades K-8 to track academic progress and monitor goals for the year
EOC (End of Course Exam)
tests taken by all students in grades 6-8 on various subject areas
EP (Educational Plan)
a plan created for students who have qualified and been staffed to receive gifted services
It spells out the student’s goals and objectives for the duration of the plan.
FAIR (Florida Assessment for Instruction in Reading)
a state diagnostic assessment in reading given to students to determine levels of reading proficiency- it is administered 3 times a year
FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test)
The State of Florida’s criterion referenced test taken by all students in grades 3-12. The specific areas assessed on the test differ depending on the grade level.
IEP (Individualized Education Plan)
a plan created for students who have qualified for services under the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) umbrella
The plan is developed with a team of school personnel and parents and spells out student academic goals for the year.
a cooperative learning model which encourages student engagement through activities that promote positive interdependence, individual accountability, equal participation and simultaneous interaction

LPA’s 3 Rs: Respectful, Responsible and Ready to Learn stem from this
a set of principles based on the book by Stephen Covey taught to students in grades K-8 to help foster leadership
computerized progress monitoring assessments through Discovery Education given three times a year to students in reading, math and science to assess proficiency
Wonderful Wednesday
Four times a year students will experience a Wonderful Wednesday schedule by grade level. Students will rotate by group to participate in some or all of the following activities: Art, Music, PE, Media, Guidance.
