LinksforLearningHeader0 Below are links are for EVERYONE at LPA to help with learning. Students, teachers and parents are encouraged to use different subscription sites when researching, learning or teaching, or even for just plain interesting fun. Some require a user name and password. Some are also only for teacher use during school lessons and are identified as “a teacher resource”. Please see the staff in the Media Center for all username and password information. Additionally, please be aware that some sites/resources may only be accessed during the school day hours.

WorldBook Online is an excellent subscriptiona database resource for research for all ages. You will need a user name and password for this if you plan to use it at home.  Kid Friendly Search Sites is a link leading to appropriate elementary and middle school sites for research, educational and fun purposes. LPA teachers, students and parents should use this as a link when searching for both educational information and fun web sites suitable for the age group of our LPA students.
Kids.Gov is the official kids’ portal for the U.S. government. It links to over 2,000 web pages from government agencies, schools, and educational organizations, all geared to the learning level and interest of kids. The site is maintained by the Federal Citizen Information Center (FCIC). linksforlearningflower Florida Electronic Library is a gateway to select Internet resources that offers access to comprehensive, accurate, and reliable information. Available resources include electronic magazines, newspapers, almanacs, encyclopedias, and books, providing information on topics such as current events, education, business, technology, and health issues. The Florida Electronic Library offers information for all age groups, including homework help for students and resources for teachers. These online databases and services are available free of charge to any Florida resident with a public library card, and can be accessed from any home, workplace, public school, or public library in Florida, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.If you don’t have a public library card-this is a very good reason to sign up for one!
American Library Association Great Sites for Kids includes sites that have been evaluated by children’s librarians that are the best of sites that can be found on the web relevant for students up through eighth grade. Funbrain offers more than 100 fun, interactive games that develop skills in math, reading, and literacy
Infotrac Gale Databases is a resource provided by the Florida Department of State, Division of Library Information Services. It provides our LPA community access to millions of articles from scholarly periodicals, newspapers and popular magazines. Once you go to this link you will be guided to a list/explanation of the different databases we have access to that can be searched for relevent articles. You may select multiple databases to search at once or select only one to search. Additionally, the databases at the bottom are to be searched alone and are very suitable for our LPA learning and researching needs! From home you will need to know our SJCSD password. Library of Congress for Kids and Families A wealth of information for research and learning including “America’s Library”, “American Memory”, “Today in History”, “Everyday Mysteries(Science), and more! Encyclopedia.Com is a free online encyclopedia that features premier titles like The Columbia Encyclopedia, Oxford’s World Encyclopedia, and the Encyclopedia of World Biography.
Merriam-Webster Online offers a free online dictionary. Need help spelling a word or understanding a words meaning? If so, this is the site for you. The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary includes the main A-Z listing of the words as well as the Abbreviations, Foreign Words and Phrases, Biographical Names, and Geographical Names section of the dictionary.linksforlearningflower Yippy Search Engine is a meta-searching engine that delivers results in a “cloud groups” verses a long list. The clouds help you see your search results by topic so you can zero in on exactly what you are looking for or discover unexpected relationships between items.
Quintura for Kids helps search for information needed by simply clicking the words in the cloud. When you point to a word, new words will appear to make your query more specific and help you receive results more relevant to context you search.linksforlearningflower Storyline provided by the Screen Actors Guild Foundation is a free online resource for books read aloud by famous people. Activites guides are also included for teach of the titles.
Kerpoof can be used by students to create original artwork, animated movies, stories, greeting cards and more. The site is meant to be fun, but has educational value. Teachers can use Kerpoof in many ways to enhance classroom activities while meeting a range of educational standards. Accelerated Reader Book Finder helps you locate books that have AR quizzes and also to check BL (book levels) for AR books. For access to taking quizzes, use the LPA Media Center Accelerated Reader link from the main page.
Wordle is a free online application for creating “word clouds” from text. The National Archive Experience Digital Vault is a web site that provides an interactive resource database for teachers and students. Teachers can use this to create lessons with primary resources, and find activities related to a variety of Social Studies standards. Students have access to the huge holdings of the National Archives to use for school projects. The database has over 1,200 documents, photographs, drawings, maps, and other materials. The Digital Vaults allows users to customize their viewing of the exhibit and also enables them to create posters, movies, and games. EDSITEment Offers a treasure trove for teachers, students, and parents searching for high-quality material on the Internet in the subject areas of literature and language arts, foreign languages, art and culture, history and social studies.

Word IQ is a free online dictionary, encyclopedia, and educational resource. Seven Habits of Happy Kids provides some fun online games and activities to go along with our Seven Habits school-wide focus.

Brainpop is a teacher resource that can be used in a variety of ways for curriculum related lessons-whether introducing a new lesson topic or ilustrating more complex subject matter or reviewing important content before a final assessment. For use during school hours only. Discovery Education United Streaming is a comprehensive K-12 library of digital resources that enables seamless integration of standards-based videos, digital images, and video clips that will enhance the classroom lessons for LPA staff members. Once teachers sign up for their own personal account via the LPA school subscription, this link will give complete access to award-winning visual materials that directly relate to LPA’s curriculum content areas of learning. Additionally, teachers will have student login accounts to complete assignments as well.
TeachingBooks.Net is a teacher resource that can be used to explore children’s and young adult books and their authors. It includes useful materials and exciting programs (short movies, audio book readings, book discussion guides, and more) that add a multimedia dimension to reading in the classroom, library, and home. Newspapers In Education is a cooperative effort of newspapers working with local schools to encourage the use of the newspaper as a tool for instruction and to promote literacy. Under the program, The St. Augustine Record sponsors newspapers for teachers to use in their classrooms for free. NIE teachers also receive curriculum ideas, teaching materials, special supplements, newsletters, training opportunities and more. Teachers can go to this link to sign up for their own free subscription to get started using this resource with their classes. Learn to be Healthy is an online health education center that has been designed to help educators, teachers, parents, families and the community communicate physical and mental health science education concepts to students K-12 through health educational resources such as games, activities, and lesson plans. LearntobeHealthy.org’s web-based kits meet many National and State Health, Science and Technology Education standards and make health education fun.
